After months of waiting, judgement day may have arrived. In Politico’s daily email Morning Shift, the reporters warn that the Supreme Court may be ready to announce their decision on Janus v. AFSCME as early as this week.
Readers of UCOMM Blog know that the Janus case would be the most destructive case for unions ever, essentially making the entire United States Right to Work for public employees. Ever since Trump chose Justice Neil Gorsuch for the Supreme Court, making him the tie-breaking vote, unions have begun preparing. These preparations include talking to their members about the importance of staying with their union, re-signing members, and cutting costs.
While Politico is warning that the decision could come this week, the court often holds controversial decisions until the end of their term in June. SCOTUS Blog backed up this thought by saying that it seems a little early for the decision.
Whether or not the court issues their decision this week, next, or at the end of June, it is clear that we are coming to the end and a decision is imminent. It is time to ask, is your union ready for Janus?
